#17 on the Ballot
Candidate for Osage Minerals Council
About Batt DeRoin
Reuben Battiste DeRoin, known on the ballot as Batt DeRoin, is a lifelong Osage citizen committed to protecting the Osage mineral estate for future generations. His Osage name is Zhin‑ga‑ga‑hi‑ge (“Little Chief”), and he is a member of the Wa‑Ca’-Be (Black Bear) Clan. He is 5/16 Osage and 1/8 Otoe.
Born and raised in the Hominy Indian Village, Batt lives today in his family’s original allotted home—passed down through generations. His upbringing grounded him in Osage culture, responsibility, and respect for land, people, and tradition. From an early age, he participated in In‑Lon‑Shka and community life, shaping a disciplined, service‑oriented approach to leadership.
Leadership & Experience
Batt served six years as Chairman of the Hominy Indian Village Five Man Board, working directly with community members to address concerns, support cultural continuity, and strengthen local governance through respectful, accountable leadership. His role required collaboration, transparency, and a steady commitment to the needs of Osage families.
Professionally, Batt is trained in HVAC and is employed with Osage Nation Gaming, bringing a practical, hands‑on work ethic and problem‑solving mindset. He understands the value of stewardship, safety, and accountability—principles he applies to public service.
As a headright holder for 16 years, Batt views the Osage mineral estate as a sacred trust, not just an economic resource.
Why I’m Running
Batt is running for the Osage Minerals Council to ensure the mineral estate is managed with integrity, transparency, and long‑term vision. He believes Council members must remain accountable to shareholders while protecting environmental health and Osage values.
He supports clear communication and believes the Council must work collaboratively with shareholders, producers, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Tribe, and Congress to ensure responsible development and effective oversight of the mineral estate.
